Old Enough To Do Good In The World
Hi! My name is Samy. I am 8 years old and I am in 3rd grade at the Ridgewood Avenue School in New Jersey. I have a mother, father and a big sister named Mariel. In January, my mom and dad were talking about where to go on vacation during our school break. They asked me if I wanted to go to the beach. But I said, “Can’t we go somewhere and do good in the world?” My mom and dad said, “of course we can.” My mom booked a trip to Guatemala with a group called From Houses to Homes. They help poor people in Guatemala by building lasting homes for them. She showed me on the internet how some Guatemalan families live in shacks made out of cornstalks with dirt floors and plastic bags lining the walls. In February we went to Guatemala and built a house for a family with a 7 year old girl. It was an great experience. I kept a journal of our trip, and my mom made it into a book. You can check it out here. I know that there are a lot of kids who do amazing things to help other people. I hope they will share their experiences with me. Together, kids can make the world a better place.
